Big House Red - 2005 Red

Price: $6.99
Location: Santa Cruz, CA
Website: http://www.bighousewines.com

Reaction: This was the bottle opened right after the Firefly Ridge, so of course it was good. However, after the Syrah had been long forgotten, the Big House Red could start to stand on its own in taste - a little peppery, a little sweet...but perhaps maybe a little too sweet. It's pretty loud for my (Lorelei) boring oak-y tastes and didn't really fit with the steak we were having for dinner, but it has a nice fruit flavor and I wont complain on finishing the rest of the bottle.

Rating: Would buy again, but only if no others bottles jump out. Probably best with a burger or pizza.

Firefly Ridge - 2004 Syrah

Price: $6.99
From: California Central Coast (back says San Louis Obispo and Ripon)

Reaction: First sip we both made a sour face and immediately went for a second to see if it was just our palette. It wasn't. The wine tasted like grape juice and vinegar and had me wishing for Two Buck Chuck. We convinced ourselves it was drinkable (as we weren't looking for anything too amazing - just wanted to drink something while cooking dinner), but we only lasted a few more sips before emptying our glasses in the sink and opening a new bottle.

Rating: Do not buy.

Apparently Everyone Has One

...as we learned trying to find an available blog address. But now we have one too! Michael and Lorelei's wine blog...a place to keep track of what we like and what we don't...so that we don't keep buying the same bottles over and over (damn you, Tuscan Moon!). We'll do our best to make our posts complete with information so that they may help fellow drinkers, however, there might be times where we do nothing more than say the name of the bottle and our initial emotional reactions...hope you can deal with it!

Bottles will cover a lower to mid range of prices but will be mostly red wines...that's just how we do it. Cheers!
